Frequently Asked Questions

How do I transfer my workouts from the old app?
In the old app, go to History > Backup & Restore, and save a backup. In the new app, tap on the Profile button that appears top-right in the Summary tab, and scroll down to “Import from Classic App.” Read the explanation, and then tap “Choose File.” Then select the Backup file you just saved from the old app. (This should be located in your iCloud Drive, in a folder called Reps & Sets.)
Why aren’t my workouts, templates, or custom exercises syncing?
Reps & Sets syncs your data via iCloud, which is usually fast and reliable. If something goes wrong, here are the first things to check:
– Ensure you have a reliable internet connection on all your devices.
– Make sure Low Power Mode is turned off on your devices.
– Ensure you’re signed in to the same Apple ID on all your devices.
– Check that you have available iCloud storage. You can check this in Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
– While you’re in iCloud settings, also make sure iCloud is enabled for Reps & Sets.
– Try restarting your devices.

In most cases, one of the steps above resolves the issue within a few minutes. If your sync is still not working, there’s a diagnostic tool in Reps & Sets that can help figure out what’s going wrong. Go to the Profile sheet (the circular button in the top-right of the Summary tab), then scroll down to:

Technical Support > Backup, Reset, & Restore (Beta) > CloudKit Diagnostics

You can share this report with me by tapping Copy Full Diagnostic Report. Then go back to Technical Support, tap Email Me, paste the report into the email, and send it.

Can I log lbs and miles instead of kg and km?

Yes. You can change the default units that Reps & Sets uses from kg/km to lb/miles in your Profile. (The Profile button appears top-right in the Summary tab.) You can also override the default units on individual exercises or supersets within a template or workout by tapping the globe icon.

How do I create supersets, tri-sets and giant sets?

You can add Supersets to templates or workouts. Just tap the Add Superset button. (During a workout, you might need to tap the List button to reveal it).  Then select the exercises you want to include. You can select two for a superset, or more for tri-sets and giant sets. Then, each time you tap on the Add Exercise button, you’ll be asked which exercise you want to add.

Where can I get templates?

You can download templates from websites or via URLs friends share with you. Plus, there’s a selection of templates to get you started in the New tab.

Where are the charts?

In the Summary tab, you’ll find two charts:
– Workout Duration
– Total Reps & Weight

In Workout History (accessed via the Summary tab), you’ll see a Heart Rate chart for each workout.

In the Exercises tab, you’ll see a Total Reps & Weight chart for each exercise.

How do I duplicate a template?

When you are viewing the template you want to duplicate, tap the Share button (square icon with up arrow). You’ll see it in the toolbar top-right when you view a template. Copy the URL this creates and paste it into Safari. Click the Download button, and “Open in Reps & Sets”. A copy of your template will be saved.

How do update a template?

When you base a workout on a template, any changes you make to that workout will not be automatically reflected to the template. This is so that you can log deviations from the template. If you want to permanently update a template, you can do this in the Library tab (on iPhone) or the Sidebar (on iPad).

Can I add my own exercises?

Yes! In the Exercises tab, just tap  the (+) button, give your exercise a name, and select which muscles and equipment it uses. The equipment you select will determine what options are presented when you add your exercise to a workout. For example, if you pick a bench, your options will include the angle of incline for that bench. If you want a weight picker, you must pick weight-based equipment, such as dumbbells or kettlebells.

Can I suggest exercises that you should add?

Yes, please do! You can contact me via the “About & Help” options at the bottom of the Summary tab.

Why do my Active Calories look wrong?

Active Calories are estimated differently, depending on which device you use to start your workout. Apple Watch has a heart rate sensor, so you’ll get more accurate results if you start your workout on your watch. You can achieve similar results if you start your workout on your iPhone with AirPods Pro 3 attached, since these have a heart rate sensor too.

How do I backup my data?

There are three things to do:

  1. Go to Profile > Export Data. This allows you to export your workouts in CSV format you can read in any spreadsheet software, including Excel, Apple Numbers and Google Sheets. Doing this is an excellent insurance policy in case anything ever goes wrong with Reps & Sets.
  2. You can backup your templates using the Share button (square icon with up arrow). You’ll see it in the toolbar top-right when you view a template. Tapping this button creates a unique web address on our server, reps.io. Copy these URLs and paste them somewhere safe. If you click on these links on a device that has Reps & Sets installed, you can download the template again.
  3. Go to Profile > Backup, Reset, & Restore (Beta) and tap “Save to Files”. This will save a “repsbak” backup file that you can reinstall on a blank copy of Reps & Sets. Be sure to save this file somewhere safe. Don’t save it in the default Reps & Sets folder.
How do I reset my iCloud Sync?

WARNING: Resetting iCloud Sync will erase all your data in Reps & Sets. So, first you should backup your data. See “How do I back up my data?”

When you’ve backed everything up:

  1. In the Watch app on your iPhone, tap on Reps & Sets, and turn off “Show App on Apple Watch”.
  2. If you have  Reps & Sets installed on any devices other than your iPhone (e.g. iPad or Mac) on those devices go to Profile > Support > Backup, Reset, & Restore (Beta) and tap Delete all Local Data. Then immediately force-quit the app by swiping up twice.
  3. On your iPhone, go to Profile > Support > Backup, Reset, & Restore (Beta) and tap Delete All Local Data, then Delete All iCloud Data, then Full Sync Reset. Then force-quit Reps & Sets on your iPhone.
  4. Delete Reps & Sets on all your devices. (It should already be gone from your Apple Watch).
  5. Reinstall Reps & Sets on your devices, and check your Reps & Sets database is blank (no workouts or templates). Then test if sync is working by creating a template and seeing if it appears on all devices.

If you have a question that’s not answered here, you can contact me directly via email, or on the Reps & Sets Discord server. You’ll find details in the app. Scroll to the bottom of the Summary tab, and tap on “About & Help.”
